Applications received subsequent to second consideration date (April 15, 2018) may not be given full consideration. _________________________________________ The George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for Ryan Assistant Research Professor of Neuroscience, beginning Fall 2018. The Ryan Institute for Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary research and translational science center with more than 30 affiliated faculty. The institute brings together top researchers and clinicians in the fight against neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on discoveries that lead to therapies. Duties/Responsibilities: The successful candidate will join a team studying the cell and molecular biology and biochemistry of brain endothelial cells as it relates to neurodegenerative disease, especially Alzheimer's disease. They will also provide scientific leadership and mentoring of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff engaged in other projects, and will contribute to setting the strategy and research plans for the group. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Ryan Institute for Neuroscience. Qualifications Required: 1. Ph.D. with a concentration in neuroscience, cell and molecular biology, or related field. 2. At least seven years of postdoctoral research in neuroscience, cell and molecular biology, or related field. 3. Demonstrated evidence of scholarly activity. 4. Demonstrated proficiency in independently conceiving and executing a research program. 5. Demonstrated experience collaborating with other researchers. 6. Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups/populations. 7. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills. 8. Demonstrated strong oral communication skills. Preferred: 1. Demonstrated research experience in cellular and molecular neuroscience, including cell culture, assays of cytokines and other neuroimmunological factors, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry, and biochemical and behavioral analyses in animal models of disease.
