Bindery and Physical Processing Specialist

This position manages bindery and physical processing operations for University Libraries; provides conservation treatments for library materials; and supervises departmental student assistants including, hiring, scheduling and evaluation. This position will monitors student assistant and binding budgets.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Working knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques.
Working knowledge of book binding and book repair principles. Working knowledge of and skill using automated databases.
Demonstrated skill in word-processing, spreadsheet and other computer applications. Critical thinking skills and ability to identify, analyze and solve problems. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed bibliographic work accurately by studying and complying with various technical manuals and guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, and organize processes and workflows efficiently. Demonstrated ability to lead and direct the work of the other personnel.

Level and type of experience
Considerable work experience in library technical services to include ordering and copy cataloging of new acquisitions and/or library binding operations. Some experience with detailed bibliographic work and complying with various technical manuals and guidelines. Some experience with word-processing, spreadsheet and other computer applications. Some customer service experience working in a public service setting.

Preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification
Working knowledge of MARC formats, OCLC and automated library databases.
Demonstrated skill in using automated bibliographic databases. Familiarity with University personnel procedures for hiring, training and supervising student employees.
Bachelor's degree or combination of education and related experience indicating possession of the proceeding knowledge ,skills and abilities

Conditions of Employment
Monday through Friday, usual schedule of 8:00am - 5:00pm. Schedule adjustments are possible.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
Salary is commensurate with education and experience and begins at $ - 25,718
