Human Resources Manager

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director of the School of Neuroscience in the College of Science, the Human Resources Manager supports all human resources activity across the School. This position is responsible for a full range of human resources programs and services regarding faculty, staff, wage and student appointments. The Human Resources Manager serves on the School of Neuroscience management team including the Executive Director and Business Manager to advise on major human resources issues such as strategic staffing, recruitment, screening, job analysis and evaluation, classification and compensation, career development, coordination of training programs, organizational design, performance management, employee relations, retention, and recognition. Independently interprets, advises and applies University personnel policies and procedures in line with School of Neuroscience goals and objectives and ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations regarding human resources.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or other business related field, or equivalent training and/or experience that demonstrates a full and broad understanding of the legal, operational and strategic issues in the workplace.
- Experience such as developing and writing position descriptions, job advertisements and recruitment plans.
- Experience such as working with compensation analysis, performance management planning and employee development.
- Basic computer experience using software such as Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and design, implement, and maintaining accurate, auditable and secure human resources records.
- Ability to use internet search engines for research and prepare analysis and data summary reports.
- Must have exceptional customer service skills and the ability to communicate and interact in a professional and courteous manner with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment.
- Must be able to exercise excellent judgement, discretion and initiative.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with databases such as Banner HRIS and PeopleAdmin.
- Experience with Virginia Tech human resources policies and procedures.
- Human Resources experience in an academic or professional office environment.
- SPHR or PHR certification.
