Lecturer - Psychology - Two Positions



The College of Social Sciences at Eastern Washington University invites applications for two Lecturers in the Department of Psychology to begin September 2018. These are full-time non-tenure track position. Contracts are renewable annually.


The Department of Psychology at Eastern Washington University offers undergraduate programs in Psychology and Applied Developmental Psychology as well as graduate programs in School Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and General Experimental Psychology. The department is made up of approximately 27 full-time faculty with expertise in a wide variety of sub-disciplines in the field.


The successful candidates for the lecturer position will be qualified to teach courses mainly in the undergraduate Psychology program.


Primary Responsibilities:
1.Lecturers at EWU are expected to devote 100% of their effort to teaching activities;
2.Teaching activities include the following related responsibilities:
a.Typical workload for this position will involve 45 credits per academic year, subject to Department needs, primarily at EWU's main campus in Cheney, WA
b.Teach courses in program such as General Psychology, Scientific Principles of Psychology, Introductory Statistics, Introduction to Psychotherapy, Theories of Personality, and/or other courses that fulfill the needs of the Department and Program
c.Although not expected, there may be opportunities for summer quarter instruction
3.Collaborate with colleagues in the successful operation and development of all academic and administrative department activities
4.All faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning
5.Faculty may be expected to teach face-to-face classes, hybrid or blended classes and/or online classes according to the needs of the department

Conditions of Employment


The required start date for this position is 09/16/2018. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/16/2018.


Position is based on the Cheney campus, and includes in-classroom teaching as part of its position responsibilities. As a result, this position will not be filled with a candidate who seeks an on-line only, remote teaching position.




Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or doctoral degree in Psychology.



  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.



  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with strong attention to detail.



  • Competent with and experienced using databases, email, and other forms of instructional technology



  • Demonstrated high degree of interest, ability, and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity




Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years of successful teaching experience at the college or university level



  • Experience teaching one or more of the following topics:

    • Introduction to Psychology

    • Scientific Principles of Psychology

    • Introductory Statistics

    • Introduction to Psychotherapy

    • Theories of Personality
