Job Summary

We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position:


The Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) is a full-time, 12-month, professional and, reports directly to the Senior Director of HRL. This position is primarily responsible for staff recruitment, selection and training, professional staff supervision, crises and conduct case management, leadership development, and delivering a comprehensive residential program supporting student success. The Associate Director will work in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Residence Education on the programming and residential curriculum for residence hall students and student staff. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with campus colleagues in an effort to find opportunities to create transformative experiences for our students. This position will maintain a focus and priority on building a staff with the skills and abilities to work with the diverse and first generation student populations that EWU serves.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible professional work in housing or related field.

  • Successful experience supervising professional and paraprofessional staff.

  • Experience managing budgets.

  • Experience developing and staff training and professional development opportunities.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

  • Experience managing crises and emergencies.

  • Excellent problem solving skills, including experience analyzing and resolving conflict, successfully navigating group dynamics, and effectively building teams.

  • Working knowledge of regulations affecting residential life programs (i.e. Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Act, Title IX, etc.)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with campus colleagues.

  • Knowledge of and experience with best practices for residential life in the following areas: support of student learning and success; academic achievement; diversity and inclusion; social integration; wellness and well-being; life and career preparation; empowerment and accountability; and values clarification.


Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field.

  • Five years of progressively responsible professional work in housing or related field.

  • Experience working with other student affairs departments or committees including developing partnerships for joint initiatives.

  • Experience working with, and advising, student leadership.

  • Experience working with Star Rez and Banner.

  • Bilingual Spanish.

  • Experience with program development and assessment of residential curriculum.

  • Experience with strategic planning.




Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
