Executive Director for Facilities Management

To oversee and coordinate all construction, maintenance, and operations of campus facilities and other departments as assigned, within a culture of service to the College community.

Salary Grade A17
Essential Functions
• Provide leadership to plan, coordinate, and direct through subordinate supervisors, the activities of Facilities Management. This will include the establishment of standards and metrics to assess the effectiveness of campus operations.
• Be responsible for the development, operation, maintenance, construction and renovation of facilities, both on-campus and off, serving faculty, staff, students and visitors of the college.
• Work with maintenance supervisors to assure that operating manuals and/or written procedures exist and the written procedures are followed for each department. This will provide others with written documentation outlining and supporting departmental operation.
• Be responsible for all Facilities Management records including building plans and specifications, equipment listings, warranties/guarantees, cost data, blueprints/reproducible, manufacturer/supplier manuals, and all other records and information necessary for long term knowledge of the nature and components of Elmhurst College, thus being able to accomplish efficient and effective operation and maintenance.
• Design, implement, and maintain an energy conservation program that will result in building environments consistent with generally accepted federal and engineering criteria, occupant comfort, and the lowest practical cost in dollars and fuel consumption.
• Assure the maintenance of campus facilities in accordance with generally accepted sustainable design, practices, materials and operations.
• Function as the liaison to engineers, architects and contractors during new construction and renovation. Review and make recommendations regarding standards, procedures, design, and work schedules.
• Maintain labor cost and time control standards as well as periodically auditing departmental project costs to assure effective operation at reasonable cost for each department.
• Compute maintenance budget costs and maintain adequate control within appropriations.
• Develop, schedule, and implement regular preventative and routine maintenance programs.
• Regularly inspect or provide the means to inspect the campus buildings, grounds, and related equipment.
• Provide service to the cabinet and others, in assessing campus facility needs for growth, development and improvement. Provide oversight in the implementation of the college master plan.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
• Ten years of experience in Facilities Management or similar position.
• Successful administrative and supervisory experience.
• Ability to pass a criminal background screening.
• Demonstrated ability to work well as a part of a management team and provide leadership to staff to meet institutional goals and objectives.
• Demonstrated exceptional customer service and problem-solving orientation.

Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience as a Director of Facilities Management on a college campus.
• College graduate with engineering and/or Facilities Management and/or architecture specialization.
• Practical experience in engineering and electrical or a related field.
• Formal training in Facilities Management.
• Personnel management training or experience.
• Knowledge of accounting and budgeting procedures.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
The employee is subject to indoor work and is protected from weather conditions. Physical activities include repetitive motion and exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The job requires manual dexterity.
