Executive Assistant

Position Summary:
The Executive Assistant performs a wide variety of activities required to provide exceptional administrative assistance to the Department Head of the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering ( AOE ). Primary responsibilities include: providing general assistance to the department head to balance workload between department management and responsibilities for teaching, research, and service to the profession; management of the department head's schedule; making travel arrangements and submitting travel authorizations and travel reimbursements; and working on both general assignments and special projects as the need arises.

Required Qualifications:
- Proficient in general computer skills such as word processing, email and calendar management.
- Experience such as drafting and editing correspondence, reports, and other documents in a professional and efficient manner.
- Proficient with current office software such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere, demonstrate discretion in working with confidential information and use sound judgment in decision making.
- Professional communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all individuals in a diverse multicultural environment.
- Strong proof reading skills and ability to prepare error free documentation and correspondence in a professional and timely manner.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Virginia Tech Principles of Community.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in higher education providing administrative support.
- Considerable knowledge of university organizational structure, policies and procedures.
- Experience with travel arrangement and reimbursement.
