Assistant Professor, Department of Kinesiology


The College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut provides for a global sustainable future through scientific discovery, innovation, and community engagement. The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut is regarded as one of the best in the country. Our doctoral program is presently ranked among the top 10 programs in the USA by the National Academy of Kinesiology. The faculty includes recognized leaders in the fields of physical therapy, exercise science, exercise and sport nutrition, and athletic training. In addition, the productive research program at the Human Performance Laboratory is widely recognized and published worldwide.

The Department of Kinesiology is seeking applications for a faculty position at the rank of tenure track Assistant Professor to advance research, provide a service function in alignment with the Physical Therapy program, and support teaching in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program's didactic component is located at the Storrs Campus with potential research collaboration at the Storrs campus, UConn Health Center, and other partners statewide.

Primary responsibilities will be to teach in the DPT program and assist in the management of the clinical education component of the curriculum. In addition, this position requires the ability to mentor students, conduct and publish research and promote outreach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • An earned, research-based doctorate in an area relevant to health sciences,
  • An established line of research with a record of scholarly publications and experience with grant submissions that provide strong evidence of the potential for establishing a nationally competitive program.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent skills in oral and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a deep commitment to promoting diversity through academic and research programs. .

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Eligible for or currently hold a license in physical therapy by the State of Connecticut.
  • Post-doctoral research experience or presently in a research faculty position
  • Research driven by laboratory paradigms that can take full advantage of our Motion Capture Laboratory and UCONN's Brain Imaging Research Center (BIRC: http://birc.uconn.edu/ ) are preferred, though all viable, impactful research agendas will be considered. UConn's BIRC has a 3Tesla Siemens Prisma Scanner with coil arrays for the head and all major joint structures
  • Ability to contribute to mentoring DPT students in the development of their capstone scholarly projects
  • Experience or ability to contribute to courses in Clinical Neuroscience, Neurological Physical Therapy, Biomechanics, Motor Control, and Human Movement Science Methods and Analytics.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time eleven month tenure track appointment, with a preferred start date of August 2018. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
