CVM Strategic Content Manager

Position Summary:
The Strategic Content Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating digital and print communications projects for the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, including the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Blacksburg, VA and the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, VA.
Reporting to the college's communications and marketing director, the manager will develop and implement comprehensive content and messaging strategies across digital and print platforms that promote the missions of the college, encourage engagement among college constituents, and support advancement efforts using a cohesive voice that supports and adheres to the college's brand.
Working within the Advancement Model, the manager will employ a digital-first strategy in creating content and publications that convey messages effectively across a number of digital platforms as well as in print. The manager will maintain a content editorial calendar, conduct analytics reporting, and ensure that communication, marketing, and engagement efforts are segmented by audience and include measures for success that inform future activity.
This position manages the development and maintenance of websites for the college and hospitals as well as the production process for official publications, working with the graphic designer and web coordinator. As primary writer and editor for CVM communications and marketing materials, the manager will plan and execute the production of the college's external and internal publications (e.g. website content, social media posts, news releases, magazines, newsletters, brochures, etc.). The manager will also provide content support for development, alumni/practitioner relations, and hospital marketing efforts.
The manager will oversee the college's media relations program, including setting and reaching media outreach goals, placing stories in local, regional, national, and trade media outlets, proactively developing relationships with professional colleagues and journalists, and maintaining the college's experts database.
This position empowers internal constituents with tools and training, including web communication standards and style guide, leadership of the college's CMS user group, and media training for faculty, to communicate and strengthen the college's brand.

Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, English, or related field; At least 5 years professional experience in communications, marketing, print journalism, media relations, or other forms of written communication; Training or experience in media relations and information-campaign development;
Experience managing employees; Track record of creating compelling and impactful digital communications that work across various platforms and can be translated into print; Highly self-motivated and able to work effectively in a team setting; Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications, interpersonal relations, and broad-based communications planning;
Proven skills in customer service, attention to detail, quality assurance, and ability to schedule and meet project deadlines among multiple and competing priorities; History of overseeing a professional social media account that promotes engagement;
Experience staging and shooting high-quality photography; and a commitment to promote inclusion and diversity in the work environment and college community.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree and significant related professional experience, in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or relevant field; Understanding of higher education, veterinary medicine, biomedical research, and public health; Knowledge or experience with Content Management System ( CMS ) software, specifically Adobe Experience Manager; Experience shooting and editing video; Experience developing and implementing a brand; Track record of communications efforts that support development objectives.
