Position Summary:
Reporting to the college's Assistant Dean for Advancement and the Assistant Vice President for University Relations, the Director of Communications and Marketing will plan, execute, and evaluate a comprehensive communications and marketing program for the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine that aligns with Virginia Tech-wide communications, marketing and branding initiatives.
The Director of Communications and Marketing will have a strong record of progressive experience in today's communications fields, which includes evidence of strong writing and editing, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and marketing skills; proficiency in using word processing, image processing, content management systems, and social media tools; a strong understanding of effective graphic design and branding principles; demonstrated experience using digital media, the web, online marketing, direct marketing, and social media best practices; and the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic environment. The Director will work as a member of the college's advancement team to promote the overall institutional goals related to communications, public relations, marketing, fundraising, and alumni engagement.
In addition, the Director will support the college's faculty and student recruitment and retention efforts. The Director will collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Advancement and the Directors of the college's two clinical teaching hospitals in Blacksburg, VA and Leesburg, VA and the Director of the Comparative Oncology Research Center in Roanoke, VA to develop, execute and evaluate effective marketing and promotional strategies for current and potential clients and referring DVM practitioners.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and relevant experience or master's degree.
- Demonstrated experience in communications or marketing.
- Demonstrated understanding of brand development, implementation and oversight involving multiple partners and constituencies.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and evaluate a comprehensive communications or marketing program.
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic development communications and messaging that clearly supports campaign priorities and the college's fundraising goals.
- Demonstrated leadership/management experience and team orientation in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to define goals and objectives, identify target audiences, and develop and implement strategic plans to accomplish and measure progress towards communications goals.
- Ability to effectively and politically navigate a complex, multi-level organizational landscape and develop superior working relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a higher education, independent or professional school, clinical/health care/animal welfare environment.
- Experience with alumni/volunteer engagement or development initiatives.
- Strong skills using technology in the workplace; familiarity with content management systems, e-mail management, and social media competencies.
- Experience working with a variety of creative communications, advertising, and data analytics.
