Postdoctoral Fellows- Social Justice

2018-2019 Social Justice Postdoctoral Fellowship Position Announcement

Purpose : The purpose of this postdoctoral fellowship is to provide advanced training with a specific emphasis on social justice and diversity for those who have completed a psychology internship in a college or university counseling center or a similar agency. The postdoctoral experience requires participants to be involved in the full range of psychological activities that professional staff members engage in related to counseling center work, including individual counseling, initial consultations, outreach, and after-hours emergency coverage. Additionally, the fellow will develop outreach and consultative relationships and activities that dovetail with the objectives of our center and those of our Division of Student Life related to social justice and inclusivity. While respecting the complex nature of multiple, intersecting identities, the fellow will be asked to choose and nurture a specific area of concentration regarding cultural diversity and should indicate that area of interest in the application cover letter.

In addition to a 40-hour work week, periodic evening and weekend work will be expected.

This is a full-time position, available August 7, 2018 through August 6, 2019. The salary is $35,955 plus basic student health insurance, dental coverage, and support for professional travel. Fellows have access to the University's libraries, Internet, e-mail, recreational facilities, and cultural and athletic events.

Requirements: Applications are invited from persons who will complete their doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology prior to the fellowship start date. A doctorate from an APA-approved psychology program and an APA-approved internship are preferred. The successful applicant should demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based, culturally responsive treatment and an interest in university counseling center work and college student development. A strong background and training in intersecting identities, power and privilege, and social justice preferred.

Setting: The Center is a multi-disciplinary unit that is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services and sponsors a doctoral internship in psychology that is accredited by the American Psychological Association. The current staff consists of 14 psychologists, two psychiatrists, four doctoral interns, three postdoctoral fellows, and five support staff.
