Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary:
Provides human resources support to assigned business units across the university to assist in effective talent management for administrative professional faculty, staff, and wage employees. Responsibilities include coordination of talent acquisition, position classification and compensation, initial employee relations contacts, human resources policy interpretation, and efficient human resources administration. Provides coordination of access to other Human Resources services and teams. Provides guidance to internal assigned clients on issues of compliance with a wide variety of human resources laws, regulations and standards.

Required Qualifications:
-Master's degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Business or related field or bachelor's degree and equivalent level training, education, and experience.
-Experience working with supervisors, leadership, and administration in a complex organization in the delivery of Human Resources programs.
-Knowledge of Human Resource Management principles, practices, and regulations to include classification and compensation, staffing and recruitment, performance management, EEO and Affirmative Action, and employee relations.
-Ability to interpret and apply policies, exercise judgment, apply problem solving strategies and work with confidential information.
-Ability to research complex human resources problems, and write well-reasoned and insightful reports and recommendations.
-Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Advanced degree in human resources related field.
-Experience in developing job postings and position descriptions, reviewing candidate pools, providing guidance on starting pay, and/or assisting managers in basic employee relations.
-Experience using Microsoft Office suite of software and in using enterprise human resources software solutions and data query tools.
-Knowledge of higher education, Virginia Tech, and public sector human resources policies and procedures.
-Professional certifications by Society of Human Resource Management ( SHRM ) or similar professional body.
