First consideration will be given to applications received by January 31, 2018. Second consideration may be given to applications received by February 23, 2018. Applications received subsequent to the second consideration date (February 23, 2018) may not be given full consideration. The University of Rhode Island's School of Education invites applications for a full-time position in TESOL /Dual Language Immersion beginning in Fall 2018 as a tenure track assistant professor. The School of Education is offering an online MA in TESOL /Dual Language Immersion. There are three tracks to this program: (1) adult education in a range of settings, including international, (2) teacher certification for public PK-12 educators working with ELLs in ESL education, (3) teacher certification for PK-12 educators teaching in Bilingual/Dual Language Immersion settings. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Duties include teaching courses for PK-12 ESL and Dual Language Immersion teacher education in areas such as Second Language Acquisition, Socio-Cultural Aspects of Multicultural Education, Researching Language in Educational Settings, Structured English Immersion and Sheltered Instruction, Methods of Language Instruction and supervision/placement of field experiences. In addition, the faculty member will be expected to provide local, state, and national professional service; and provide leadership to the M.A. program. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED : 1. Ph.D./Ed.D. in second language or bilingual education, TESOL , Foreign Language Education. 2. Demonstrated evidence of scholarly activity such as publications and/or presentations at local, regional or national conferences. 3. Demonstrated 1 year of experience as a dual language or ESL teacher in a public school setting. 4. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills. 5. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills. 6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of technology and distant learning in instructional delivery. 7. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations. PREFERRED : 1. Demonstrated evidence of potential to develop, secure, and managing externally funded projects. 2. Demonstrated teaching, research and/or service experience with diverse populations. 3. Demonstrated 3 or more years of experience as a dual language or ESL teacher in a public school setting. 4. Demonstrated active engagement with and/or leadership in education preparation professional organizations. 5. Demonstrated experience in high-needs schools. 6. Demonstrated experience teaching English internationally. 7. Demonstrated experience with university-school partnerships. 8. Demonstrated experience with standardized language proficiency assessment. 9. Demonstrated experience teaching courses in elementary or secondary education at the undergraduate or graduate levels.
