Adult Basic Education Literacy Instructor


Overview of position:
  • Providing direct reading instruction for students who need reading/literacy intervention
  • Identifying the instructional needs of non readers and low level readers
  • Teaching language construction acquisitions through multisensory, structured instruction
  • Conducting formative and summative student assessments
  • Maintaining all required student records and complete all reporting requirements.
Employee will receive direct supervision from the Director of Adult Basic Education and Alternative Diploma Options Programs, Business and Continuing Education Division.

Required Qualifications
Minimum Education and Training Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in education or related field
  • Training in a phonetics-based reading program that addresses learning disabilities and adult learning styles
  • Familiar with diagnostic tools as WADE, SORT, GORT
  • At least three years of experience teaching literacy to beginning readers
  • Ability to model effective phonemic awareness/comprehension strategies

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualification:
  • Knowledge of characteristics of adult learners.
