History Instructor #017136

The History faculty will perform duties and functions under the general direction of the Vice President of Instruction and shall be responsible primarily to the Dean of Social Science. 

The successful candidate should be prepared to teach three 5-credit World History courses per quarter.  Bellevue College offers three 100-level survey courses in World History: Ancient World, The Middle Ages, and Contemporary World.  Depending upon enrollment demands, other responsibilities may include teaching courses in the 100-level United States History survey (Colonial America, Nineteenth Century U.S., and Twentieth Century U.S.), as well as specialized 200-level World History courses.  Additional responsibilities include advising students, curriculum development, and performing departmental and college service.  Diverse candidates dedicated to student success at the community college level are encouraged to apply.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in History or related discipline (Explain applicability of related discipline in cover letter)
  • Experience teaching a college-level World History survey course (e.g. Ancient World History, The Middle Ages, Contemporary World)
  • Able to teach a class from at least one of the following specialized fields of World History: History of Asia, The Middle East, Africa, Britain, Latin America, Ancient World Civilizations
  • Able to connect and build relationships with students and colleagues from varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities
  • Commitment to community college mission and student population
  • Positive results data from student or supervisor evaluations
