Director - Tisch Library

The Tisch Library serves the teaching and research needs of students and faculty primarily in the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering. These schools include nearly 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and nearly eight hundred faculty members. Additionally the Tisch Library serves as a resource for other schools at Tufts, participants in varied summer programs, alumni, users from the Boston Library Consortium, and residents of the local Somerville and Medford communities.

Reporting to the Deans of both Arts & Sciences and Engineering, the Director of the Tisch Library works collaboratively with colleagues across the libraries and the University to determine priorities, assess strengths and weaknesses, and develop service strategies that enhance and support the academic mission of the University. The Director will develop, enhance, and maintain partnerships with academic departments, research centers, institutes, and learning communities throughout the University. The Director will develop and implement a shared vision for the Library in support of the strategic plans for the University and the Schools of Arts & Sciences and Engineering; provide support and direction to a strong and effective Library leadership team; oversee communication strategies between the Library and its constituents; and strategically manage the Library s operations.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • Senior librarian with significant experience in supporting teaching and research in a complex academic environment.
  • Advanced degree in librarianship (MLIS or equivalent)
  • Progressively more responsible positions in library administration.
  • Demonstrated talent in leadership and collaboration, advancing core values and priorities of University in support of the institution mission and goals.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Insight into the key role of the library in a student-centered research university and vision for enhancing this role.
  • Strong grasp of the key elements of teaching and learning and how the library, teaming with relevant student-facing services, impacts student success.
  • Ability to manage resources efficiently, creatively, flexibly and often in partnerships with other organizations within the university in order to move the organization forward.
  • Respect for the value of equity, diversity and inclusion as a priority.
  • Ability and willingness to provide a consistent model of emotional intelligence in dealing with all individuals and situations.
  • Track record of success in team building and transparency, as well as a willingness to maintain open communications with staff.
