Assistant Dean, Multicultural and Leadership Development

Job Description
The Assistant Dean, Multicultural and Leadership Development oversees, plans, implements, and evaluates services, programs, and activities for students. The Assistant Dean provides leadership and direction for professional staff and student assistants within the Multicultural and Leadership Development Office.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Higher Education Student Personnel Services, or closely related field.
Five years of fulltime experience in administration and staff supervision.
Demonstrated experience in implementing and assessing high impact practices for students related to leadership development and multicultural student development.
Experience managing budgets including projections, purchasing, and providing oversight to ensure alignment with fiscal allocation.
Experience with updating websites and designing publications that appeal to students.

Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Higher Education Student Personnel Services, or closely related field.
Experience teaching in a higher education setting.
Experience in the use of assessment packages such as Student Voice including survey development and reporting results.
Experience with student information systems such as Banner or PeopleSoft to track student progress and analyze data.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the Council for the Advancement of Standards ( CAS ).
Knowledge of FERPA , Sunshine Law, and other laws, regulations, and standards related to governing student organizations.
Knowledge of student intellectual, emotional, social, and leadership development theory, with emphasis on identity development.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful programs for diverse and underrepresented student populations.
Knowledge and experience designing, implementing and assessing the effectiveness of marketing strategies and promotional materials.
Strong working knowledge of identity development and leadership development theories with the ability to design programs to support and challenge student growth.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
Strong inclusive community builder skills.
Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
Ability to gather data, maintain records, and prepare reports and other written materials.
Ability to utilize data and information to make decisions and projections.
Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance and motivation.
Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.

Salary Range
$56,000 - $61,000

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
•Coordinates and facilitates interactive workshops that promote experiential learning.
•Develops programmatic activities to foster understanding, improve communications, and increase awareness for future leaders.
•Acts as a resource on all diversity and inclusion student matters.
•Develops and oversees a robust calendar of programming related to multicultural, diversity and identity development for all varying levels of students.
•Develops alternative break programs focused on civic engagement.
•Provides support and guidance in the development of programs for student leaders of underrepresented groups to ensure collaborative programming, community building, and calendar coordination.
•Advocates for and encourages student access to other support services within the university and community.
•Tracks student progress to ensure performance metrics and retention is a key focus of programming.
•Manages databases, reports, presentations, correspondence and the organization and analysis of program participants' data.
•Builds and strengthens comprehensive multicultural and leadership development initiatives for students that are aligned with the university mission and goals.
•Collects and analyzes data on activities and events to assess and report on program participation and effectiveness. Prepares monthly reports, presentations and proposals.
•Oversees the creation of quality publications including reports, brochures, flyers, invitations and training materials.
•Participates in state, regional, and national professional organizations, conferences and workshops. Maintains professional memberships and certifications.
•Participates in development of learning outcomes for each program. Sets and assesses goals and conducts long-range planning and reporting for the office.
•Provides fiscal management and administrative oversight of the Multicultural and Leadership Development office budget. Formulates and implements budget requests and priorities. Coordinates and provides oversight for all purchasing activities, reviews and approves expenditures, requisitions and p-cards.

Other Job Duties

Other Duties
•As requested by the Dean of Students, serves on university-wide committees, projects, parent interaction, and crisis management.
•Teaches and develops academic credit courses on leadership development.
•Brings forward issues and concerns of underrepresented students to the Dean of Students.
•Chairs decentralized assessment team and serves as liaison to the department of Planning & Institutional Performance.
•Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Dean of Students.
