Assistant Director of Financial Aid Programs/SFS Counselor

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid Programs/Student Financial Services ( SFS ) Counselor provides information and services to prospective and enrolled students and families with regard to financial aid, college financing programs, and student employment opportunities.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Programs/ SFS Counselor include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Counsel and assist current and prospective students and families, including prospective competitive athletes, in understanding the financial aid process, aid calculations, and financing options. While the primary delivery method for advising will be in-person and phone counseling (one-on-one), the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Programs/ SFS Counselor also represents Wheaton at group information sessions, high school financial aid nights, and other community events.
• Meet with enrolled students to assist them in finding on- or off-campus employment, or refer them to other resources as necessary. Provide information to students and parents about the student employment program.
• Serve as counselor-on-call on a regular rotation schedule.
• Conduct verifications, review high school transcripts for federal grant eligibility, and assist with resolving disbursement and eligibility issues of financial aid applicants.
• Under the direction of the Associate Director for Financial Aid Programs, certify state scholarship eligibility and process outside scholarship notifications.
• Review applications for financial assistance and determine expected family
contributions in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policy.
• Process parent and alternative loans.
• Assist with exit counseling program for graduating and withdrawn students.
• Represent Wheaton at internal and external events.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in financial aid administration required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be knowledgeable about college financing and payment programs and able to convey messaging about value, affordability and net price.
• Must be available to work evening and weekend hours as needed during busy season or for special events.
• Outreach programs may require the ability to travel occasionally.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and institutional methodology.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of constituents.
• Detail-oriented and the ability to multitask effectively.
• Strong written, spoken and interpersonal communication skills.
• Significant experience with desktop office applications and a high level of comfort with learning new technology.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with families (students and parents) in a private college or university setting.
