Job Description
The Digital Initiatives Librarian will address the growing need for digital collection creation and maintenance within the library. Continue the development of the FGCU Library's Repository. Collect and archive institutional scholarship. Digitize and create metadata for items in the library's special collections. Safeguard the physical holdings of the archives and special collections and any loaned materials intended for digitization, as well as ensure that archival-level preservation techniques are used.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited program or foreign equivalent.
One year of experience with digital initiatives projects.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with digital initiatives and projects such as collecting and ingesting materials into institutional repositories e.g. ETDs, scholarly publications, and undergraduate research.
Familiarity with current digital library technologies, standards, and best practices.
Experience with archives and special collections, including physical and digital preservation.
Experience with metadata creation.
Experience supervising interns and student workers.
Two or more years of relevant experience in an academic library, museum or similar institution.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of copyright and permissions issues, including open access publishing
Knowledge of the role of the institutional repository in the academic environment.
Demonstrated ability to plan, initiate, and implement effective programs, projects, and services, working both independently and collaboratively.
Knowledge of digital library standards, technologies, and techniques.
Familiarity with major descriptive metadata standards ( METS and MODS ).
Demonstrated organizational skills with aptitude for and evidence of complex analytical and detailed work, and commitment to quality assurance and control.
Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills, both written and oral.
Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Strong interest in collaborating both within and outside the university to develop key partnerships. Ability to develop, deliver and assess instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value and engage in continued scholarship, and service to the university, community, and librarianship.

Essential Job Duties
Plans and implements digitization and metadata creation work flows.
Trains OPS and interns to digitize and create metadata.
Supervises, trains, coaches and assess OPS and interns.
Develops and maintains successful working relationships with the Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative, Library Systems & Technology Department, and with other FGCU Library and University faculty and staff
Develops, deliver and assess training and instruction for University students, faculty and staff.
