Overview

The Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory, a world-leading fusion energy research center under contract with the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE), invites applications for a Mechanical /HVAC Engineer, Project Manager. This position is responsible for compliance to PPPL's Integrated Safety Management Process for Contractors and PPPL employees.

Responsibilities

  • Capable of performing building heating and cooling calculations.
  • Capable of performing air flow duct and pressure drop calculations.
  • Capable of performing system sizing calculations.
  • Evaluate and provide engineering direction to maintain existing equipment including the preparation of operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert on HVAC issues.
  • Prepare Contract Documents (Statements of Work) for HVAC related projects.
  • Sufficiently strong knowledge of HVAC systems to develop, present and defend HVAC designs during Peer, Preliminary and Final design reviews.
  • Prepare design and construction cost estimates based upon industry standards (e.g. RS MEANS)
  • Manage Projects, have experience dealing with customers and eliciting project requirements, working with subcontractors, resolving conflicts, and obtaining consensus among stakeholders. Possess knowledge of construction standards, ASHRAE standards, and typical construction techniques.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of building mechanical systems, building envelope design and HVAC/R equipment technology.
  • Have the ability to read and understand P&ID's, control strategies and development of control schematics based upon the documents.


Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a BSME (advanced degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience working with HVAC and Utility (Cooling Water, Chilled Water) projects.
  • Experience in HVAC, Water Systems, Controls and Facilities Design In a Research Laboratory or Commercial facility.
  • Experience in Chiller Plant and Steam generating systems
  • Experience with supervising engineering and construction of projects.
