Software Engineer

SOFTWARE ENGINEER, edX, to help develop and maintain the infrastructure in AWS for all services and systems required to run the edX website. The Platform team primarily focuses on the provisioning, configuration, deployment, and monitoring of services at edX. The edX production environment is hosted in AWS on servers running Ubuntu Linux. EdX is actively working on extending its use of containerization, specifically via Docker. Responsibilities include helping to design and deploy high-availability systems; working with developers and staff to maintain and improve the infrastructure of edX; rapidly diagnosing and resolving faults with services and communicating to users as appropriate; and helping the open-edX community who is standing up the edX platform and making contributions to its open-source code. The position offers a great opportunity for someone with a passion for automation, configuration as code, metric-based decision making, and constant improvement.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science; at least three years' systems administration experience; strong working knowledge of Linux, both as an end-user and as an administrator; adeptness with programming/scripting languages; familiarity with a configuration management system such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef; experience running web applications in a production environment; and excellent personal interaction skills for interfacing with a wide range of people up to board level. Seek someone who wants to continuously improve and learn, is willing to tackle a wide-range of projects, and is interested in learning new technologies. Experience with some of the following would be ideal: NGINX, MySQL, MongoDB, Django environments, Splunk, and Git. Python experience preferred, as are strong polyglot skills. Job #15489-P


Will participate in on-call and emergency support. There will also be occasional out-of-normal hours work required.
