Intensive English Instructor

Position Summary:
The Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute ( VTLCI ) is currently seeking applications for full-time academic year faculty positions in our English Language Program offered at our main campus in Blacksburg. The primary role of the English Language Program is to prepare internationals for Virginia Tech admission. The program increases diversity in the university's student population and enables outstanding candidates to meet English language admission requirements to the University. The VTLCI seeks individuals with the appropriate education, experience, and willingness to teach multiple levels for nine months covering the fall and spring semesters (mid-August through mid-May).
The position requires teaching 20 hours weekly of intensive English to an academically-oriented population 17 years of age and above. Selected individuals will uphold a leadership role in in the future direction of the program and in curriculum planning. Instructors will act as student advisors and will attend to a variety of administrative tasks, including orientations, assessments, reporting, and other duties as required. The VTLCI seeks applicants willing to work collaboratively with their peers and who have demonstrated an interest in research and professional development in the field of ESL and/or Applied Linguistics. This nine-month restricted faculty position is non-tenured and renewable yearly.

Required Qualifications:
• Master's degree in TESOL , Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or very closely related field with a TESOL certificate (minimum 18 credit hours)
• Considerable experience teaching a variety of university ESL courses, levels, and skills with the ability/willingness to teach all levels from Low Beginner to Advanced
• Demonstrated ability to use the latest technology and teaching techniques.
• Record of professional affiliations and accomplishments in the field of ESL and/or linguistics

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in teacher training and/or capacity building initiatives
• Experience with learning management systems and online course design and delivery
• Knowledge of and experience with curriculum design and evaluation
• International work experience
• Proficiency in a foreign language
• Officer of, or presenter at, TESOL and/or the local affiliate during the past five years
