The Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security in the College of Professional Studies at St. John's University is seeking applicants for 2 full-time tenure track positions: one OPEN RANK and one as ASSISTANT PROFESSOR of Criminal Justice or Homeland Security, commencing September 1, 2018.

The Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security has a dynamic practitioner/academic faculty and offers the following undergraduate programs: Criminal Justice, an American Bar Association approved paralegal program and Homeland Security. The Division also offers a graduate program, a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership. Faculty focus on key areas of skill development that include critical thinking, oral and written expression, team membership, leadership, and employment readiness. Description of Responsibilities: The Division is looking for candidates who can support the growth of undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy, be able to integrate technology into teaching for face-to-face, online and hybrid modes. Candidates engage primarily in teaching and will support core and elective courses for a diverse array of students. Our faculty engage in professional and program development, program assessment, and service to the University and broader community. Professional activities including consultation, presentations, and research and writing for the academic or professional community are expected.

This is a teaching-intensive position (9-12 credit hours per semester) with opportunities for research reductions. Research productivity is important, but secondary to teaching excellence and a strong commitment to student engagement. Division faculty are expected to participate in academic advisement, student mentoring, and other student engagement activities as required by the Chair and/or Dean.

Qualifications: Candidates should have an earned doctoral degree in criminal justice or a related and relevant discipline. Candidates possessing a J.D. who have gained admittance to a state bar association are invited to apply as well, especially with an additional earned doctoral degree Candidates who possess professional practitioner experience in Criminal Justice or Homeland Security disciplines are preferred. Research-based teaching experience at the university level is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can support the growth of undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy, be able to integrate technology into teaching and use face-to-face, online and hybrid modes. Candidates with evidence of teaching excellence, professional and scholarly research activity, student engagement and a strong commitment to service are preferred. Participation in division, college and university governance is expected.
