Power Plant Operations Shift Supervisor

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Power Plant Operations Manager, the Power Plant Operations Shift Supervisor is responsible for the overall operation of the power plant on designated shift. Directs employees to safely operate plant boilers, plant turbine, and associated equipment. Performs boiler water analysis. Ensures that plant emission standards are maintained within specified parameters. Ensures that employees adhere to all relevant safety standards. Ensures all shift duties, including records and housekeeping, are performed in a timely manner. As necessary, may perform plant operator duties and operate equipment if plant conditions dictate.

Required Qualifications:
- Considerable previous power plant and/or boiler experience.
- Strong mechanical experience with ability to perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Experience performing and interpreting water analysis and softener regeneration procedures.
- American Society of Power Engineers ( ASOPE ) Power Plant 1st class license (PO1) or equivalent, or must be able to obtain within 36 months of employment into position.
- Demonstrated ability to direct the work of others.
- Strong decision making ability.
- Ability to communicate effectively, work as an effective team member, and receive and execute instructions form the immediate supervisor.
- Ability to key and record data.
- Ability to operate bucket loader.
- Ability to operate coal storage and delivery systems.
- Ability to work shift work.
- Ability to safely, frequently and independently move and handle (including pushing/pulling) items weighing up to 50 pounds; climb steps and ladders up to four stories; and work in confined spaces, in extreme heat and dusty environments. Though work is performed primarily indoors, must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. Work may require bending, crouching and/or kneeling, standing, sitting and walking for up to one hour duration at a time.
- This position will require an annual physical examination as part of health assurance program.
- This position is designated as "Emergency Personnel". Must be available twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week to provide support during planned events or emergency situations (such as inclement weather) to include being physically on site if deemed necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Steam turbine operation experience.
- American Society of Power Engineers ( ASOPE ) Power Plant 1st class license (PO1) or higher.
- Previous experience working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System ( CMMS ) or computerized work order system, such as HokieServ.
- Working knowledge of a variety of technical documents such as blueprints, technical drawings, sketches, schematics, specification records, and operating and maintenance manuals.
