Assistant Professor of Psychology


Brief Summary:

The psychology department in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Marist College invites applications for the tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Psychology to begin in the fall of 2018. Successful candidates will have a passion for undergraduate teaching, recognition of the value of a dynamic and highly interactive student/faculty environment, and a commitment to involving students in an active research program. The college places a high priority on the creation of an environment supportive of diversity and strongly encourages applications from ethnic minorities, women, persons with disabilities, veterans, and persons from other under-represented groups.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Applicants should be flexible with regard to teaching assignments and especially confident in their abilities to teach courses in developmental psychology and research methods and to develop laboratory courses within their areas of expertise. We welcome candidates who can teach courses that expertly integrate relevant sociocultural and diversity content and issues. The expected course load for our faculty is 3:4. Applicants should be engaged in ongoing research activities and enthusiastic about mentoring undergraduate students in collaborative and independent scholarship.


Qualifications:

We seek excellent teaching potential, a strong commitment to service to the college and community, and active scholarship. We are seeking, specifically, those with an earned doctorate in Developmental Psychology or closely related field by May 2018. Area of research focus within developmental psychology is open. Candidates whose research is focused on issues related to diversity, multiculturalism, and ethnic populations are particularly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with strong quantitative analysis skills. College level teaching experience is preferred; competence in the use of instructional technology is expected.
