JOURNALISM FULL TIME, TENURE TRACK FACULTY

Harper College seeks a dynamic instructor of journalism for a full-time tenure-track position.

 

Communication Arts is a growing department of seven professors who teach Speech, Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism and Theater. We are building a modern media lab that reflects the changing landscape of journalism. The department offers extracurricular activities that include; WHCM Radio, The Harbinger Newspaper, Speech Team, Debate, and the Harper Ensemble Theater Company.

 

We are looking for candidates who understand that good journalism is about storytelling. The successful candidate will teach Journalism, Photojournalism, Introduction to Mass Communication, and Public Relations.

 

The successful candidate will advise & transform the campus newspaper as well as develop journalism content for our campus radio station. Proficiency in the use of the Adobe Creative Suite, social media platforms and skill in basic web design is required.

 

The successful candidate is expected to teach 15 contact hours in the Communication Arts Department, advise the campus newspaper, serve on department/division/college committees, hold ten office hours per week and pursue professional development related to the discipline & pedagogy.

 

Requirements: 

  • At least a Master’s degree in Journalism, Communication or Mass Communication. An emphasis in journalism is desirable.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • Experience advising student-run news outlets preferred
  • Experience using technology in the classroom and alternative classroom delivery modalities
  • Credentials to teach the basic speech course desirable
  • Curriculum development experience desirable
  • Recent professional journalism experience desirable
