Director of Finance and Operations

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Director of Finance and Operations for the Division of Human Resources serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team ( SLT ) and provides leadership and effective management of the financial, business, and operational functions in support of the Division of Human Resources. The Director directs the operational units including budgeting and fiscal operations, facilities management, administrative operations, and resource and space allocation. Acts as a liaison to university-wide initiatives and committees for operational matters.
This position will have access to sensitive and confidential information and requires the completion of a Criminal Background Check.

Required Qualifications:
-Advanced degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience managing business operations.
-Solid financial planning background.
-Financial work experience in a university or similar large de-centralized company.
-Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget formulation, evaluation, and execution; accounting practices and procedures; accepted business practices.
-Demonstrated leadership skills and substantial work experience in supervisory role of a business unit.
-High level of proficiency with Microsoft word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
-Ability to communicate and interact effectively with management, co-workers, subordinates, and the public.
-Excellent organizational and time management skills.
-Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
-Demonstrated commitment to the Virginia Tech Principles of Community.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Familiarity with university policies and procedures
-Related work experience in a large, public institution or similar environment
-Demonstrated thorough understanding of higher education finance and business operations.
-Previous experience budgeting for an auxiliary enterprise.
-Experience with Banner Finance and Banner HR.
