Assistant Professor in Residence


The Anthropology Department within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor-in-Residence level in Cultural Anthropology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

The position consists of teaching two courses in anthropology per year and requires grant writing, administration, and evaluation of research pertaining to women and minorities in STEM K-12 and postsecondary school.

The successful candidate will have expertise in cultural/medical anthropology, research methods, and grant writing and administration regarding underrepresented minorities in STEM education. The incumbent will share a deep commitment to effective instruction and to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must have: 1) a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field; 2) a record of successful teaching at the postsecondary level; 3) a record of obtaining funding, conducting, and administering research pertaining to women and underrepresented minorities in STEM K-12 and/or postsecondary education; 4) demonstrated qualitative, quantitative, and evaluation research skills, including measurement development and validation; and 5) the ability to work effectively with a diverse interdisciplinary research team.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This position is a full-time, nine (9)-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2018. This position reports to the Anthropology Department Head, Dr. Pamela Erickson. The position may be annually renewable based on performance, budget and needs of the department and college. Salary is competitive based upon qualifications. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs Campus. The teaching load for this position is up to seven 3-credit courses per year, or the equivalent.
