Position Summary:
The Ted and Karyn Hume Center for National Security and Technology at Virginia Tech seeks applicants for a Program Coordinator position supporting the Office of Education and Outreach. The Hume Center's mission is to develop the next generation of leaders for the national security community through a mix of curricular offerings, scholarship programs, extracurricular programs, outreach, experiential learning, and research. Our research portfolio includes wireless communications, electronic warfare, signals intelligence, satellite systems, cybersecurity, machine learning and data analytics.
This position would support the Office of Education and Outreach in a number of functions, principally management of the Hume Center's National Security Education Program and assisting with the management of undergraduate experiential learning programs and graduate research programs. The ideal candidate would have experience in a higher education environment, project management, student mentorship and/or advising, the proposal development process, and be familiar with career and workforce development in the defense, intelligence, and other federal sectors.
This Program Coordinator in the Office of Education and Outreach position is responsible for supporting the management of (1) student engagement, outreach and experiential learning programs and activities on the Blacksburg and Arlington campuses through the National Security Education Program; (2) scholarship programs, including application and selection processes for the IC Scholars Program, the CyberLeaders Program, and other scholarships through the Hume Center's Academic Affiliates Program partners; (3) working with industry and government partners to match students with internships and full-time employment opportunities, including organizing campus recruiting visits for Hume Center industry and government partners; (4) ensuring that graduate and undergraduate students involved in Hume Center programs receive the necessary level of mentorship, either from university faculty or affiliate organizations; (5) coordinating, gathering and recording student metrics and data on Hume Center programs; and (6) coordinating with consortium partners throughout Virginia Tech and at other universities. This position must effectively coordinate with internal and external stakeholders in the university environment, including students, faculty, administration, and government and industry funders.
This position reports to the Associate Director of Education and Outreach of the Hume Center in Blacksburg, VA, and works closely with the Director of Education and Outreach, who leads the Center's Office of Education and Outreach and is located in Arlington, VA.

Required Qualifications:
- An earned master's degree in a related field or an earned bachelor's degree in a related field with equivalent experience
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Capability to perform budgetary tasks including planning, expenditures, reconciliation, and reporting
- Ability to work as a member of a team in developing and managing projects
- Capability to take on broad tasks, identify the steps necessary to execute them, ensure their proper execution, and succinctly convey their results
- Ability to interact successfully with multiple audiences ranging from undergraduate students to external sponsors
- Given the nature of the work conducted by the Hume Center and requirements from federal sponsors, candidates must be U.S. Citizens

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing government or industry funded programs
- Experience working in academic environment, including student advising and/or student mentorship
