The Civil and Environmental Engineering ( CEE ) Department at Old Dominion University ( ODU ), Norfolk, Virginia seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment in the area of coastal geotechnical engineering. Applicants with a background in geotechnical engineering focusing on the coastal/marine environment are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will contribute significantly to both the teaching and research missions of the
department and is expected to focus their activity in areas that complement the university's research
efforts in climate change and sea level rise (http://www.odu.edu//research/initiatives/ccslri) working with the Center for Sea Level Rise (http://www.centerforsealevelrise.org/) and the resilience collaborative (https://www.odu.edu/impact/initiatives/resiliencecollaborative).

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
Teaching duties will include traditional geotechnical engineering courses, as well as the development and introduction of new courses focusing on marine and coastal geotechnical engineering both on the
undergraduate and graduate level. Research areas that support the sea level rise initiative leading to more resilient coastal communities may include, but are not limited to, storm damage mitigation,
innovative geotechnical systems and/or materials development for applications to loads from natural or man-made hazards, resilient and sustainable infrastructure, port engineering, analysis and design of
structural support/foundation systems in the marine environment. A background in the geotechnical characteristics of marine sediments and support of energy development in the offshore environment is
also of interest.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
The position is expected to be filled at the level of Assistant Professor and the successful candidate is required to have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related area is required.

Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification
The successful candidate will be expected to either hold or be eligible to obtain licensure as a registered professional engineer (PE).
