Tufts University Advancement is looking for a Director of the Development for the Fletcher School. The Fletcher School, as the oldest exclusively graduate school of international affairs in the United States, continues to meet the demands of a world in which the only constant is change. The primary aim of The Fletcher School is the same as it was when conceived by its founders: to offer a broad program of professional education in international relations to a select group of graduate students committed to maintaining the stability and prosperity of a complex, challenging and increasingly global society.

The Director of Development is a key member of the Advancement Team and plays a vital role in the department s achievement of its fundraising goals. The Director of Development will oversee the annual giving program and stewardship. This position also manages a portfolio of donors and prospects. Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • 8-10 years of progressively responsible development experience including management and leadership annual and/or major gift solicitations working for a healthcare institution, academic medical center, scientific research organization, or higher education institution.
  • BA/BS or equivalent years of relevant experience.
  • Valid U.S. Driver s License.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and some experience working with complex databases.
  • Strategic planning/execution experience is required, as are superior written and verbal communication skills. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Have the stature and proven ability to develop relationships with alumni/friends, school administrators and volunteers. The ability to synthesize information into articulate and compelling cases for support of priority programs.
  • Possess a collaborative style that fosters effective partnerships with colleagues throughout University Advancement. Able to creatively engage and motivate colleagues, volunteers, donors, and prospects in fundraising, while inspiring confidence with internal and external constituencies.
  • Experience managing staff.
  • Significant experience in the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of leadership annual and/or major gifts, ideally within a complex healthcare institution, academic medical center, scientific research organization, or institute of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master s degree preferred.
