Research Associate

Position Summary:
We are seeking a full-time, calendar year, research associate to assist Dr. Michael Flessner's program in Weed Management, crops and forages. The position is for one year; continuation of the position is desired, but reliant on future grants. Specifically, the incumbent will generate Extension materials including Extension publications, PowerPoint presentations, online content, YouTube type videos, and development of the Virginia Tech Weed Identification Website (https://apps.cals.vt.edu/weeds/index/). Delivery of Extension presentations may also be included. Grant writing is critical for continuation of this position long-term and will be expected. Other duties may include leveraging efforts described above into peer-reviewed research papers.
Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with VT weed science faculty and graduate research assistants as well as supervise undergraduate hourly assistants. For success, the incumbent must have excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills. Flexibility, ability to prioritize, and problem solving skills are highly desired. A strong work ethic and a positive attitude are highly regarded.

Required Qualifications:
M.S. Degree in Agronomy, Weed Science, or closely related field; Applicants with a B.S. degree and relevant experience will be considered; Operational knowledge of corn and soybean agronomic and cultural practices (additional crops preferred including pasture/forage); To be successful, the incumbent must have strong written and verbal communications skills; Demonstrated expertise in data analysis, interpretation, summarization, and presentation in both oral and written formats to various audiences (i.e. farmers, industry representatives, and academics). The incumbent must possess a valid Driver's license and a clean driving record; Fluency in English; Category 10, Pesticide applicator's license or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire; Valid Driver's license; Experience using Microsoft Office software.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with ARM software; Previous supervisory experience.
