Postdoctoral Researcher - Delaware Center for Transportation

CONTEXT OF JOB:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher effective January 1, 2018. This position will support the activities of the Delaware Center for Transportation (http://sites.udel.edu/dct/), and will work closely with existing DCT personnel. This position has a research component, a teaching/training component, and requires someone with necessary software expertise to work in the Richard E. Hangen ITS Laboratory at UD.

The ideal candidate will be able to strengthen existing connections and enhance opportunities for collaboration between CAIT (Rutgers) and CATT (UMD), and will stay abreast of current research from organizations like Volpe, TTI, FHWA, and SHRP-2. Primary responsibilities include providing expertise in Citilabs CUBE and Trafficware Synchro software (experience with PTV VISSIM and VISUM is desirable), assist with development of federally funded research proposals (NSF, DARPA, USDOT, etc.), writing papers for journals and conferences, and determining future avenues of work. Other duties may include supervising graduate and undergraduate students, preparing progress reports and presentations for on-going research projects, and supporting existing research efforts in transportation at the University of Delaware.

Successful candidates will: 1) have a Ph.D. in civil engineering, 2) have a strong background in transportation engineering and modeling, 3) be highly motivated and self-directed, and 4) possess strong communication skills.

The initial appointment will be for 12 months, January 1, 2018 - December 31, 2018, with the opportunity for continuing annual extensions depending on job performance and funding availability.
