Network Analyst


Brief Summary:

The Network Analyst assists in assuring reliable ongoing network operations and support of the College's network infrastructure. This includes the wired and wireless networks, network hardware, and networking related systems and software. The position also works with other Information Technology staff to resolve systems and network related user problems. This position participates in "on-call" duties within rotating schedule.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in planning, configuring, installing and maintaining the current and future expansion of the wired and wireless network infrastructure, including new and renovation building projects.
• Work closely with the Network Engineers to carefully plan and execute new equipment specifications and integration
• Use best practices for new compliance models and techniques
• Document and maintain the College's network infrastructure as needed

Responsible for providing a positive network experience to the campus community
• Monitor, troubleshoot and remedy network issues in a timely manner
• Monitor Help Desk trouble and request tickets and provide appropriate follow up and resolution in a timely manner
• Assist in implementation and management of network monitoring software and tools
• Responsible for training and supervision of student network technicians

Monitor the network for anomalies and take action as needed.
• Respond to outages and potential threats in a timely manner
• Communicate findings to the network team and the rest of the department.
• Conduct research to figure out what the issue is, including inspecting network traffic and using various tools to find the underline root cause.

Assist in investigating network and security exposures and implement fixes to maintain a secure and reliable network.
• Network authentication, authorization, and accounting
• Troubleshoot and monitor the campus' VPN environment, access control lists and intrusion detection policies
• Maintain compliance with state and federal rules and regulations to which Marist must adhere by staying abreast of digital security and privacy laws
• Respond to and enforce legal notifications such as copyright infringement or other security related incidences in a timely manner
• Act as a key contributor to our disaster recovery team

Research, document and present emerging networking and security technologies in order to successfully implement them in the network. The analyst is responsible for continued education on these items and how they can be applied to the campus infrastructure for better support of the user population and to add functionality, speed and high availability.

Research and create standards based templates that follow best-practices for secure, scalable, and available network infrastructure.
• Create systems that can quickly deploy virtual machines and various networking appliances and their configurations to save time and be able to create redundant systems as needed. This also aids in being able to replace equipment and scale very quickly as well.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline preferred.
  • 1 -3 years of equivalent experience in networking and/or system administration required. Specific areas of interest are: Cisco routing and switching, wireless technologies and protocols, network related security.
  • Cisco CCNA highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.
  • Driver's license with no serious convictions required.
