Instructor/Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor, Coordinator of Clinical Plac


The University of Connecticut School of Nursing (UConn SON) is seeking applications to fill a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure track Clinical Professor at the rank of either Instructor, Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor. Under the direction of the Dean, the faculty member will serve as coordinator of clinical placement sites for pre-licensure and graduate nursing students, will supervise students in clinical work, and will engage in scholarly and professional service activities. He/she will: conduct evaluation of individual students' clinical performance via impromptu meetings and planned evaluation conferences; evaluate students' written work; apprise students of their clinical performance on a regular basis; act as a liaison to clinical agencies; share clinical expectations and course syllabi with relevant agency staff; initiate action, when required, to address student or agency issues that may arise; and participate in campus simulation laboratory teaching experiences. The individual who assumes this position will also: recruit qualified people to join UConn SON faculty to serve as clinical preceptors; expand clinical placement sites in the areas of central, northern, and eastern Connecticut; match available faculty to clinical sites; provide support to clinical preceptors; and participate in orientation for new faculty/preceptors.

UConn's School of Nursing is among the top Nursing Schools nationwide. It has 48 faculty members, 599 undergraduate and 186 graduate students, and actively engages in research in pain management, correctional health, high risk infancy, and gerontology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Master's degree in Nursing (Clinical Instructorlevel);
  2. Current Connecticut RN license (valid as of date of hire);
  3. Three or more years of experience teaching undergraduate students in clinical settings;
  4. Experience evaluating student performance in clinical training settings;
  5. Experience developing effective working relationships with hospitals, clinics, and other community partners;
  6. Experience evaluating preceptor performance, including in settings outside one's own area of clinical expertise;
  7. Completion of required health indicators (MMR titers, TB status, Hepatitis B, and others as required by clinical agencies) and CPR certification at the time of employment;
  8. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal relationship strategies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. PhD or DNP degree (Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor);
  2. Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credentials;
  3. Three or more years of experience working as a medical/surgical RN;
  4. Experience managing and directing "group" clinical training for students in baccalaureate nursing programs;
  5. Experience working with students in an accelerated nursing entry program;
  6. Previous classroom teaching experience in an institution of higher education;
  7. Evidence of scholarship/research accomplishments in nursing;
  8. Substantial experience teaching nursing in an institution of higher education, with documented positive student evaluations (Associate Clinical Professor);
  9. Substantial scholarship/research experience and/or grant funding accomplishments (Associate Clinical Professor).

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a 10-month, non-tenure-track position subject to annual review. Individuals may attain eligibility for multi-year contracts after successful completion of five (5) one-year appointments. Salary and position level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Anticipated start date is January, 2018. The successful candidate's primary appointment will be at the Storrs campus, with the expectation that he/she will routinely travel to clinical placement sites and occasionally travel to UConn's other regional campuses.
