Job Description
The Network Engineer II utilizes multiple technologies (Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, and Extreme) to support a large university network infrastructure. Installs, sets up, and monitors the local area network ( LAN ), Wide Area Network ( WAN ) and wireless network (Wi-Fi). The Network Engineer II also performs a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to ensure LAN performance meets company and user requirements.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field.
Three years' experience with wide and local area networks including experience with common-carrier data networks required.
Prior experience with large to very large enterprise computing environments that include multiple site locations.
Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
Three years of experience in data center and network design.
Current entry level network certificate.
Experience in networking concepts OSI , TCP /IP, Routing and Switching, Palo Alto Networks, Juniper Networks, Extreme Networks, and Cisco Networks.
Experience working in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge and experience in local and wide area networking, communications, and related hardware and software.
Working knowledge of wired and wireless networks, connections, wiring and cabling standards, and network management tools and processes.
Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with all internal customers.
Ability to document moderate to complex technical issues, effectively summarizing issues for a range of technical and business clients.
Ability to schedule and prioritize work load to accommodate customer needs while minimizing impact on current projects and network availability.
Ability to perform routine duties independently.
Ability to use analytical skills and consult with existing documentation to troubleshoot moderately complex issues affecting networks, systems, and applications.
Knowledge of standard project management methodologies and project life cycle phases.
Ability to gather user requirements, to complete systems analysis, and to create general systems design.
Ability to analyze and evaluate technical requirements and specifications.
Ability to identify key milestones for medium-sized projects, and to create project plans.

Salary Range
$54,000 - $59,673

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
•Implements network security, including configuring firewalls, managing host security, backup and disaster recovery planning, and adding and deleting users.
•Approves network firewall rules. Maintains confidentiality with regard to information being processed, stored or accessed through university network resources.
•Implements Network Engineer-Architect's designs, and builds the enterprise's computing networks including data centers, wide area networks ( WANS ), and local area networks (LANs).
•Makes recommendations on changes in hardware and network configuration to improve delivery and availability of service. Troubleshoots potential network architecture/design problems before they occur and communicates solutions.
•Creates and maintains existing documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, and processes.
•Recommends, maintains, and implements policies and procedures for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery. Documents work completed within tracking system. Creates project implementation documentation for moderate to complex projects.
•Installs, monitors, maintains, supports and optimizes moderately complex network hardware, such as wired, wireless or other network equipment.
•Supports software, systems and communication links such as structured cabling and single and multi-mode fiber.
•Analyzes and resolves hardware and software problems. Monitors and analyzes network performance and availability against expectations, implements performance tuning, and troubleshoots a variety of moderate to complex network problems. Provides network performance statistics and reports.
•Interacts with vendors and service providers to resolve moderate to complex network related problems, and implement solutions.
•Assists in analyzing, evaluating, and recommending new network hardware, software, and communications products for compatibility and applicability.
•Reviews work for compliance within the established guidelines of national and international standards organizations.
•Assists system users in learning the use of new network applications/services. Assists with the training and development of less experienced Network Engineers.
•Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.
