The Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position for the 2018-19 academic year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach 3 undergraduate courses per year in the areas of Nutrition Education and Nutrition in the Lifecycle. Direct the University of Rhode Island's successful SNAP -Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education) and CYFAR (Children, Youth, and Families at Risk) programs. Lead a highly successful and effective work team (8-12 FTE ) of SNAP -Ed and CYFAR educators in the state to deliver high-quality, evidence-based health and nutrition education for the SNAP -eligible population and others eligible for federal benefit programs. Develop a research area focusing on community nutrition and/or public health. This position requires new grant development and overall administration of SNAP -Ed and CYFAR grants which include proposal submissions in the summer. Summer salary is contingent on grant funding.

Qualifications

Required:

1. Earned doctorate in Nutrition or closely related area (conferred by August 15, 2018).

2. Demonstrated graduate coursework in human nutrition.

3. Demonstrated teaching experience and responsibilities at the college or university level as either an instructor, lecturer, or teaching assistant.

4. Demonstrated experience in grant writing.

5. Demonstrated experience in delivering nutrition programs in a community setting to culturally and economically diverse audiences for a minimum of 6 months full-time.

6. Demonstrated ability to develop an independent research program in community nutrition and/or public health.

7. Evidence of published research related to focus area.

8. One year of demonstrated administrative experience implementing a nutrition education grant.

9. Demonstrated strong oral communication skills.

10. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

11. Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

12. Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred:

1. Registered Dietitian

2. Independent teaching of one or more undergraduate course(s) in nutrition at a college or university.

3. Demonstrated ability to evaluate program data and publish results in required grant reports and scholarly publications.

4. Demonstrated ability to secure research funding from the USDA or other grant-funding sources.
