Printing Technician

Position Summary:
Printing Services is an auxiliary unit that provides quality printing, copying, and distribution services in support of Virginia Tech's education, research, and outreach missions. As a member of the Printing Services team, the Printing Technician will perform a wide variety of tasks in order to provide support to all areas of Printing Services, including production, bulk mail center, and digital operations. These duties include, but are not limited to interfacing with vendors, co-workers and customers and providing pick-up and delivery services for the departments. Operation of offset, digital and Bulk Mail equipment, supporting the binding and finishing process, Bulk Mail processing operations, and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of printing and binding technology, preferably with machine operation.
- Experience in commercial or in-house printing positions such as production, bindery, digital and/or bulk mail.
- Customer service experience
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to safely operate a vehicle on roadways and busy pedestrian sidewalks in the center of campus, in a variety of weather and traffic conditions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Position requires visual acuity in order to examine printing products and make adjustments in the quality of the finished product.
- Ability to safely and independently move and handle items weighing up to 65 pounds and maneuver boxes of paper multiple times up flights of steps for deliveries, loading paper into printing machines, etc
- Ability to follow instructions, handle multiple changing priorities and work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where some work areas are dusty, noisy and have strong fumes consistent with a printing plant.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous delivery service experience
- Completion of vocational or technical schooling in printing operations
- Experience performing routine printing equipment service and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of Digital and Large Format with printing posters, banners, etc.
- Experience using Postal One Gateway, Sotari or equivalent software in processing bulk mail.
