Assistant Professor, Elementary Education

Position Summary:
The Virginia Tech School of Education is seeking an Elementary Education colleague to contribute to our vision of preparing PK-6 teachers and professionals. We invite applications for an Assistant Professor in Elementary Education on the Blacksburg campus. The position is a tenure-track, academic year appointment with possible opportunities for summer session employment. Candidates must demonstrate strong potential for scholarly excellence as the successful candidate will be expected to develop and conduct research resulting in publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed scholarly journals. The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction, supervision, and advising of master's and doctoral students in Curriculum and Instruction. The standard teaching load is four courses per academic year (typically a two/two teaching load). This job may include occasional travel to attend professional conferences.

Required Qualifications:
We are seeking a candidate holding a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, Education, or a related field. Completion of the doctoral degree is required at the time of appointment (August 2018). Engagement in writing for publication, presenting at professional conferences, and future potential for scholarly research is required. A minimum of three years elementary (PK-6) teaching experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, experiences and/or commitment in the following areas are preferred: (a) previous experience in teaching courses in an elementary licensure program, (b) successful experience in supervising elementary candidates in field experiences and/or student teaching, demonstrated experience with and commitment to working with diverse populations, (d) experience in teaching elementary social studies methods, and (e) evidence of dedication to high impact outreach and service, and advocacy designed to assure equity and accessibility to high quality learning experiences in a diverse and global community.
