Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Theology of Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in New Testament for the academic year 2018-19. The Theology Department serves the university s undergraduate core curriculum and offers undergraduate majors and minors in Theology and Religious Studies. The department also offers the M.A. in Biblical Languages and Literature, Christian Ethics, and Theological Studies, and Ph.D. concentrations in New Testament and Early Christianity, Christian Ethics, and Theology. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to teach at all levels and in a theological context, engaging with colleagues in theology and Christian ethics in a contemporary Jesuit Catholic university. Teaching assignments include Introduction to the New Testament, Introduction to Christian Theology, and in general, undergraduate core courses through doctoral-level courses in the writings of the New Testament and Early Christianity. An interest in engaging colleagues in theology and Christian Ethics is expected. The position requires a productive program of research.

Qualifications
Candidates for the position should have completed the Ph.D. by the time of hiring. They must clearly demonstrate actual or potential excellence in research and teaching, including the ability to mentor graduate students. All candidates should have strong language competence in Classical and Koine Greek; knowledge of Hebrew, Latin, Syriac, and/or Coptic is also desired. The successful candidate is expected to fill lacunae in the areas of specialization represented by the current faculty. Preference will be given to those with a secondary area of expertise in an area of specialization within the study of early Christianity as well as a strong interest in Greco-Roman and Jewish religion and culture.
