Housing Counselor

Position Summary:
The Housing Coordinator will manage a caseload of housing counseling clients; work with clients on a one-on-one basis to deliver financial education, budgeting, credit and goal setting; develop/assist clients with financial stability action plans; conduct one-on-one orientation with clients to assess their financial situation, including a spending plan; manage client database; prepare activity reports for Virginia Cooperative Extension and HUD ; maintain client files.
This position will be housed in Rockingham but will also serve the counties of Augusta, Bath, Highland, and Rockbridge. The successful candidate must be available to work flexible hours (evenings and Saturdays) to accommodate the needs of clients. Local travel will be required to meet with partners, clients, etc. There will be occasional overnight travel for training and professional development. This position is grant funded and is contingent upon the availability of continued funding each year.

Required Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of a Master's Degree in financial management, housing, counseling, or related field. An exception can be made for a Bachelors in financial management, housing, counseling, or related field with significant related experience. Experience in budget and credit counseling and education; experience with delivering financial education programs to groups; ability to work with diverse clientele; excellent organizational skills, interpersonal communication, and computer skills; ability to engage and maintain participation from diverse community-based organizations and local government programs; ability to maintain written reports and records; excellent program management skills, ability to work independently; must be eligible to travel using a state issued vehile; must be able to attain a HUD housing counseling certification within 2 years of hire.
