Overview
Reporting to two Co-Director faculty, the Assistant Director of the Physics Frontier Center will, to the greatest extent possible, relieve the Co-Directors of all non-research burdens including grant submission, financial performance monitoring, seeking and reviewing post-doc candidates, planning effective research forums, and managing collaboration meetings and publishing of journal articles.
This is a one year term position with the possibility of renewal.
Responsibilities
Understand and track all operational and financial aspects of the PFC. This includes informed, long-timeline planning of strategies, major events, and program imperatives identified by the Co-Directors.
Rough-out and proofread scientific text. While this person is not a subject-matter-expert, they will have enough depth to, in time, understand fundamental PFC concepts and piece them together. This position component drives the need for a natural science or engineering background rather than fine arts or finance.
Direct the efforts of one administrative assistant in arranging travel, seminar speakers, social functions.
Serve as the first-point-of-contact for all Center affairs involving Central Administration.
This person receives most internal inquiries intended for the Co-Directors.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications:
- 4-6 yrs. of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree must be in a natural science or engineering.
- Familiarity with modern office practices and full competence with MicroSoft Office.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in the management of a research unit is highly desired as is exposure to biological science, neuro-science, and bio-physics.
