Assistant Professor, Career & Technical Education

Position Summary:
The Virginia Tech School of Education is seeking a colleague to join us in the Career and Technical Education ( CTE ) Program to contribute to our vision of preparing professional educators and leaders in the various CTE program areas. We invite applications for an Assistant Professor in Career and Technical Education position. The position is a tenure-track, academic year appointment with potential opportunities for summer session employment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong potential for scholarly excellence, as the successful candidate will be expected to develop and conduct research resulting in publications in top-tier peer-reviewed scholarly journals. The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction, internship supervision, and advising of master's and doctoral students. The standard teaching load is four courses per academic year (typically a two/two teaching load). The master's degree program includes two concentrations, pre-service teacher education and professional development for teachers. The professional development for teachers concentration is primarily an online degree, but can be completed as an on-campus program as well. The doctoral program includes a Ph.D. and Ed.D. and is available to individuals interested in pursuing careers in CTE teacher education and/or administration, as well as teaching in one of the seven CTE content area disciplines in a small college/university setting.

Required Qualifications:
Required qualifications include: a doctorate in Career and Technical Education or other related doctoral degrees with a specialization/concentration in CTE at the time of appointment (August 2018); an identifiable research agenda and demonstrated ability to write for scholarly publications; teaching experience in one or more of the seven CTE program areas or teaching in a related area in a CTE institution (teaching experience must be in a middle school, high school, and/or post-secondary CTE program or institution).

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, experiences and/or commitment in the following areas are preferred: international related work in CTE ; CTE program administration in a middle school, high school, post-secondary institution, or state/national agencies; seeking and/or securing external funding to support research, outreach, and programming; working collaboratively with diverse populations; and/or planning/providing/supervising internships in education.
