Princeton University Advancement, Office of Development, works to inform, inspire, and involve Princeton's global community of alumni, parents, and friends in ways that enable the University to fulfill its mission of advancing learning through scholarship, research, and teaching to serve the nation and the world. We're seeking a dynamic Marketing Writer who can capture compelling stories that illustrate the impact of Princeton volunteers and donors, and tell them vividly through multiple channels. We're looking for a creative and original as well as critical thinker for this position.

Content marketing is a new endeavor for the Office of Development Communications within University Advancement and will be the primary focus of the Marketing Writer. The successful candidate will be adept at working individually and in teams to devise fresh and unexpected creative concepts, and versatile at writing a wide range of materials including but not limited to digital ads, social media posts, video scripts, web content, feature stories, and other digital and print content. You will brainstorm creative concepts with colleagues; interviews alumni, professors, administrators, and others; conducts other forms of research; and synthesizes the information gathered into clear and compelling materials in support of this fast-paced office's alumni engagement and fundraising mission. You will also help identify and curate existing images and video to illustrate projects, and assist in special projects. The position is charged with producing a high volume of creative, well-crafted material under tight deadlines that meets strategic communications objectives.

Responsibilities

The marketing writer must be able to multitask, working on several projects at one time without compromising deadlines. You must have the ability to prioritize, in consultation with supervisors and independently, and to write in different tones and styles, depending upon the project. You must also have the ability to write for a wide array of media—from social media posts, to web content, to print ads, understanding the appropriate voice and tone for each channel.
  • Write digital and social content, including social media posts, e-mail appeals, content marketing pieces, web site/mobile content, and web feature articles. This content, which requires an eye for colorful detail as well as accurate information, is intended to inspire engagement with and philanthropy to Princeton by demonstrating the impact gifts have on the University and the world.
  • Write marketing content that engages alumni, parents, and friends into a lifelong relationship with the University and makes a compelling case to volunteer for and give to Princeton.
  • Write stories for internal communications and staff recruitment, and compose materials for donor events, such as program booklets, speaker bios, and stewardship publications.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in an advertising agency or university advancement operation
  • Excellent writing ability and editorial skills
  • Portfolio of high-quality published material, including strong examples of digital and social content creation as well as original creative concepting
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to multitask on a demanding schedule
  • An ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in the Development Office, campus partners, and alumni and donors
  • Strong interpersonal skills when communicating with individuals and groups
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative suite

  • Knowledge of Princeton's mission and traditions
  • Experience with higher education
  • Experience with content marketing software
