Fiscal Technician

Position Summary:
This position provides fiscal support for the faculty in the Department of Horticulture as needed. Duties include: monitoring and advising the department head and faculty on expenses/budgets; assist with reconciling accounts on a monthly basis; resolving discrepancies; placing orders using HokieMart; processing payments; and preparing travel reimbursement through the university travel system. This position also assists with all aspects of fiscal management for the Hahn Horticulture Garden. Fiscal duties include budget monitoring, reconciliation, reporting, and assisting with other financial and administrative duties as requested.

Required Qualifications:
Experience using large enterprise-wide databases in areas of finance and purchasing, such as HokieMart, university travel system, P-Card purchasing procedures, Banner, and DEPART ; Strong computer skills with word processing and spreadsheet software; Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting activities demonstrating the ability to manage departmental accounts; Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills; Familiarity with university and state administrative policies and procedures; Experience working with a diverse group of people in a collaborative work environment with attention to details.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business or accounting; Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, demonstrating proficiency with Word and Excel; Experience in financial reporting, budget preparation, knowledge of journal and budget transfers, and management of multiple accounts.
