Associate Dean for Living, Learning, & Leadership

The Associate Dean of Students provides the vision and direction for the campus regarding Residential Education, Housing Services, the First-year Experience, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs and Student Leadership Development. Reporting to the Dean of Students (chief student affairs officer), the Associate Dean will serve as a member of the leadership team in the Division of Student Affairs.

The Director will have experience and expertise that will contribute to Bucknell's commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.

Duties and responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and supervision of the offices listed above, as well as provides supervision and management of additional staff members, graduate assistants, and student workers employed by these offices, in coordination with individual departmental directors and in accordance with University policies and procedures.
• Provide a vision for the residential student experience and the learning environment that facilitates key student learning outcomes within the areas of Residential Education, Housing Services, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, the First-year Experience and Student Leadership Programs.
• Supervise, participate in, assist with, and support all programs and initiatives of Living, Learning and Leadership including Room Selection, First-year Student Room Placement, Fraternity & Sorority Recruitment, New Student Orientation, the creation of a comprehensive leadership program and all policies and procedures that impact the areas of Living, Learning and Leadership.
• Build a cohesive team among the Living, Learning and Leadership staff and facilitate collaborations needed to accomplish departmental and office goals and priorities.
• Manage family and student phone calls and concerns and respond in a professional and timely manner.
• Collaborate with other Associate Deans and their teams within the Division of Student Affairs and with other leaders, faculty, and staff across campus to promote and advance the priorities of the Division of Student Affairs and the University.
• Lead an ongoing strategic planning and assessment process for the area of Living, Learning and Leadership.
• Develop and promote a culture of assessment and data-driven decision making.
• Participate in selection, training, education, and mentoring experiences for students and professional student affairs staff.
• Lead and manage all website content and print publications for all offices within Living, Learning and Leadership.
• Lead in the design, development, implementation, interpretation, and evaluation of policies and procedures for effective program administration.
• Identify trends, best practices, and visionary strategies to assist each area to reach the most successful outcomes for Bucknell's continued future.
• Oversee the budgetary and financial planning process for each area of Living, Learning and Leadership.

Duties as a Student Affairs Leadership Team Member:
• Assist with the management of Student Affairs departmental projects, strategic plans and staff development.
• Represent the Division of Students Affairs by serving on University committees.
• Attend and actively participate in divisional staff meetings and retreats.
• Serve as an Administrative Hearing Officer, on occasion, and conduct administrative hearings for students who have violated the Student Code of Conduct.
• Serve in an on-call rotation with other divisional colleagues assisting with the coordination of student emergency responses.
• Travel and attend off-campus events and meetings representing the University and Division of Student Affairs.
• Maintain a high degree of visibility and availability to students, faculty and staff.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in higher education, college student personnel, student affairs, or a related field
• Seven years of progressively responsible administrative experience in two or more of the following areas: Residential Education, Housing, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, New Student Orientation, and Student Leadership Development
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in higher education settings
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral
• Strong commitment to student growth and development
• Ability to work collaboratively across cultures and styles at all levels of the organization
• Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships, and build consensus and support

This position requires evening and weekend availability.

• Doctorate degree
