Research Associate II, DIEEC

PAY GRADE: 29E

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The mission of the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood (DIEEC) in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences is to promote the well-being of children in Delaware. This mission is accomplished by developing and maintaining a quality statewide infrastructure for professional development for early care and education professionals, and for quality assurance of participating programs. Under the limited supervision of the Research Director of the DIEEC, the Researcher plans, carries out, and manages research projects; supervises data collection and research support staff; and prepares reports and presentations. A high level of independent judgment and flexibility are expected, as well as the ability to simultaneously attend to multiple projects while meeting time-sensitive deadlines.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans, leads and carries out research within the guidelines and timelines set by the contracting agencies. Prepares and manages Human Subjects protocols. Ensure protocols and procedures are followed.
  • Recruits, trains, and provides ongoing supervision of Research Associates and other staff associated with research projects. Coordinates the activities including the coding and entering of data by staff, graduate students, and undergraduates involved in research projects.
  • Designs, performs, and supervises data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance. Participates in recruitment of research subjects.
  • Independently conducts data analysis.
  • Prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs to funders, manuscripts for publication, and presentations for scientific conferences and other groups.
  • Serves as a liaison to external funding agents and participates in meetings with state and federal stakeholders. Provides support in budget monitoring. Assists in development and preparation of grant proposals.
  • Exercises leadership, sound independent judgment, and follows all required ethical standards. Identifies barriers to completion of tasks and implements appropriate solutions. Meets time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience working with young children in a research environment is required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences, orally and in writing.
  • Experience in a research or evaluation environment working with children, families, and/or communities.
  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish preferred.
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to understand, interpret and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of research methodology, principles and procedures; knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies; knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications; ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions; ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to develop model concepts and approaches for research; and ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Special requirement: A valid driver's license and a reliable means of transportation are required.
