Assistant Coach- Women's Cross Country and Track and Field

CONTEXT OF JOB:

The Assistant Coach I, Women's Cross Country and Track and Field, at the University of Delaware is a valued member within the University and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services (DIARS), upholding and embracing the departmental mission of "Inspiring Greatness Together."

The Assistant Coach I reports to the Head Coach of the specific sport, as well as the designated Sport Administrator, and carries out all responsibilities delegated by the Head Coach. The incumbent assists with all aspects of the operation of a Division I scholarship program, including instruction, preparation for opponents and recruitment of student-athletes, under the general supervision of the Head Coach.

On-campus contacts include students, support staff, administrators, peers and colleagues while off-campus contacts include prospective student-athletes and their families as well as peer coaching personnel at other institutions/and the general public (fans).

The incumbent must be thoroughly knowledgeable of the technical and tactical aspects of the sport and effective at transferring that expertise to the student- athletes in the program.

The position often requires work beyond that of the normal University workday and involves nights, weekends and extensive travel.



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • On and off field coaching and teaching of student athletes in an individual, as well as team practice format.
  • Coach at all competitions.
  • Recruit highly talented student-athletes for the women's cross country and track and field program.
  • Assist in the coordination of team and individual travel for the purpose of team competition and student-athlete recruitment, to include traveling with the team to away competitions.
  • Monitor and provide academic, social, and personal development support to the women's cross country and track and field student-athletes.
  • Assist in promoting and developing the program by creating and maintaining effective relationships with alumni, donors, and community members.
  • Participate in events as a representative of the department and women's cross country and track and field program.
  • Maintain knowledge and remain current regarding all appropriate Division I NCAA, CAA, Department of Athletics and Recreation, and University compliance, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with home meet management, clinics, camps, and other fundraising efforts.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in coaching related curriculum or acceptable equivalent field, and two years' job-related experience, including college-age coaching.
  • Experience coaching the jumps and multi-events.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • USATF Level I Certification preferred.
  • Competitive coaching skills
  • Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules.
  • Knowledge of NCAA recruiting rules.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Rules & Regulations.
  • Experience competing at the NCAA Division I level is preferred.
  • Experience with managing on- and off-campus recruitment of prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA Division I regulations is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
