Production Control Analyst I - IT/NSS University of Delaware

PAY GRADE: 27S

CONTEXT OF JOB:

The IT Network and Systems Services (IT-NSS) department seeks applicants for the Production Control Analyst I position. IT-NSS is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and support of networking and central computing systems. Staff in the Production Control group of IT-NSS are responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the administrative production schedule during normal business periods, as well as special events (such as FY end and BTA). The administrative systems include the Human Resources, Student Information and Financials systems in addition to central database, reporting, web server, and fundraising systems.

The PCA I interfaces with a varied group of staff including IT operators, systems programmers, applications programmers, database administrators, IT management, and staff in university administrative offices regarding the production schedule. The impact of the schedule on administrative offices requires the incumbent to be available even during emergency closings which means the PCA I is considered "essential personnel". Incumbents can progress to higher levels as their responsibilities, on-the-job experience and skill levels increase over time

The Production Control Analyst I reports to the Manager of the Data Center in IT Network and Systems Services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains the accuracy and integrity of the administrative production schedule. The administrative systems are the core business systems of the University.
  • Implements incremental changes to report distribution and scheduling software to ensure its coordination with changes to the production schedule caused by changing user needs, upgrades, or new processes.
  • Collaborates with administrative office staff and IT staff (systems programmers, applications programmers, DBAs, operators, management) regarding production processes, schedules, and report distribution. Learns the correct interfacing between the administrative systems and software tools.
  • Reviews Bugzilla reports (bug tracking system) and completed run schedules.
  • Creates, edits, and updates production documentation, production indexes, and run schedules to accommodate new processes.
  • Develops familiarity with Quality Assurance activities and as these are learned will perform QA tasks. In addition to the general production turnover process, this includes observing production control activity for planning and administration of disaster recovery testing and observing upgrade testing to become familiar with how production processes and input files will be properly handled in the updated environment.
  • Participates in training operators in production support.
  • Work is subject to oversight by a PCA III.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and one year of job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with PeopleSoft systems, scheduling and reporting software.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills along with strong written and verbal skills.
