Duties and Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as library liaison to the Stritch School of Medicine, the MS in Medical Physiology ( MSMP ) program, the Biomedical Graduate School and the Center for Translational Research and Education
Collaborate with faculty and researchers to identify needs and design and implement services, programs, and training to meet information needs on an evolving basis
Provide online and in-person reference and research support including specialized search services to biomedical and data scientists, clinical faculty, and students
Work with the Education and Research librarian (nursing) to develop and deliver library orientation and instructional materials including courses, guides, modules and tutorials in the learner s preferred format
Collaborate with the Electronic Resources and Collections librarian and the Access Services and Emerging Technology librarian to identify and promote research data description standards that support their discovery, curation, preservation, and access management
Actively promote existing library resources, services and programs to constituents
Participate in information services delivery via assigned shifts at a busy Service Desk
Recommend biomedical resources that anticipate customer needs to the Electronic Resources and Collection librarian
Work with the Associate Director/Public Services to collect and analyze metrics for assigned service areas
Maintain and improve the library web site as a member of the HSL Web Team and collaborate with the HSL Social Media team to promote licensed resources to the Health Sciences campus and Loyola community
Serve on relevant University committees and represent the library at national and regional meetings
Staff assigned shifts at a Service Desk where customer service is top priority
Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Master s degree in library science or information science from an ALA -accredited institution or equivalent degree
1 3 years of professional library experience in an academic, research, or health sciences library
Demonstrated experience and proficiency with a variety of biomedical databases and resources including PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library ( EBM resources), and Google Scholar
Ability to work effectively with researchers, clinicians and students across the University and the community at large
Experience with citation management software including RefWorks
Deep understanding of the research and scholarly needs and practices of the biomedical clinical and research community and medical education
Knowledge of information literacy and evidence based medicine principles and practices
Demonstrated proficiency with search techniques across a broad base of health sciences and biomedical resources
Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively in both collaborative and independent settings
Ability to work as a team player in maintaining harmonious, cooperative working relationships with administrators, faculty, students, and staff
Excellent presentation and instruction skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide range of users in individual and group settings
Strong interest in the health sciences, the research enterprise and supporting researchers, residents, and the educational journey of tomorrow s health care professionals and their teachers
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with a translational sciences institute
Experience using and teaching molecular biology/genetics databases ( NCBI , UCSC and others)
Knowledge of trends in biomedical informatics, data services, and scholarly communication
Teaching experience including the application of adult learning theory to instructional materials
Flexibility, creativity, and a sense of humor
Undergraduate or graduate degree in biology
Ability to multi-task and prioritize in order to meet deadlines
Demonstrated record of success
Proficiency with markup languages ( HTML ) and web editors
Proficiency with at least one programming or scripting language, such as R, Python, Ruby or JavaScript
